How to install PHP5 and MCrypt in Yosemite
Published on by Eric L. Barnes
Mike Bronner has a new tutorial showing how to install the latest version of PHP from a binary that includes the MCrypt extension. The advantage of setting it up this way is it’s easy to remove without messing up your system and you can then run all Artisan commands directly from your Mac.
As a bonus Mike includes a tip for running migrations from your Mac by changing the database config to this:
'host' => env('DB_HOSTNAME') . (('homestead' == env('DB_USERNAME') && 'homestead' != gethostname()) ? ':33060' : ''),
This is a handy tutorial if you don’t enjoy running things from within the VM.
